Applies To

Mac OS X and Symantec Encryption Desktop :

TIP: For more information on System Requirements for Symantec Encryption Desktop, please see KB article TECH224417.

Caution: Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 is not currently supported in the following scenario, however Symantec is currently looking into these scenarios as future features:

  • Mac systems which have 4K Native drives. For more information, see article TECH200098.

TIP For SEE 11: For Mac OS X System Requirements for Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11, see article INFO3170. As a general rule of thumb, if Symantec Endpoint Encryption 11.1.2 has been certified for Mac OS X 10.12, it is also certified for 10.12 subsequent releases. It is not necessary to wait for a newer version of SEE 11.1.2 to use on a newer version of Mac OS X 10.12 as long as the version supports the base release of Mac OS X. For example, SEE 11.1.2 supports Mac OS X 10.12, so this can be used to install on Mac OS X 10.12.5.

The versions of Symantec Encryption Desktop and versions of Mac OS X contained in this article have been officially tested and certified. If versions of Mac OS X are not listed on this article, the version is not officially tested and is therefore not officially supported. It is not recommended to install on versions of Mac OS X unless stated on this article.

CAUTION: Compatibility with CoreStorage: CoreStorage may be applied, by default, to your Mac OS X 10.10 drives. Symantec Encryption Desktop is not compatible with CoreStorage drives. In order to install Encryption Desktop, you must disable CoreStorage. In addition, in order to prevent future issues, including issues with an encrypted disk, do not re-enable CoreStorage after Encryption Desktop has been installed and your drive has been encrypted. Failure to do so could result in data that cannot be recovered. This issue will be resolved in a future release of the product. [3653114]. For information on how to disable CoreStorage, see article HOWTO109622.
NOTE: Mac OS X 10.10.1 was not compatible with any Symantec Encryption Desktop products prior to 10.3.2 MP7. If any version prior to Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP7 was installed on Mac OS X 10.10.1 or 10.10.2, first uninstall these versions before installing Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2 MP7 or above.
